Improving cocoa sustainability is critical to communities in West Africa. That’s why The Hershey Company became a founding member of CocoaAction, a new collaborative industry approach that brings the leading cocoa and chocolate companies together to work with governments. Hershey programs in the region support CocoaAction by building educational and community resources and improving labor practices.
The goal of CocoaAction, which operates under the umbrella of the World Cocoa Foundation, is to rejuvenate an economically viable cocoa sector by 2020. Through collaboration, CocoaAction helps coordinate the many autonomous programs in the region to benefit up to 300,000 cocoa farmers and their local communities (200,000 in Côte d’Ivoire and 100,000 in Ghana).
