We reduced waste by 360,000 pounds annually by redesigning HERSHEY'S Syrup caps.
Waste Reduction & Recycling

We work to reduce the amount of waste sent to local landfills in three ways: using recycled materials, recycling materials from our facilities and using recyclable packaging.

Recycled Materials

  • We've worked to increase the recycled content of our paperboard packaging and corrugate. You can learn more on our Sustainable Packaging page. The facility has operated for almost 20 years, and recycles a wide variety of items, including standard recyclables, all of our waste packaging films, waste ingredients, pallets, stretch wrap and more.
  • Dagoba uses 100 percent post-consumer recycled office paper at its factory.

Recycling & Recyclable Materials

  • In Pennsylvania, we maintain our own recycling center, which recycles materials from our East Coast factories and corporate facilities. The facility has operated for almost 20 years, and recycles a wide variety of items, including standard recyclables, all of our waste packaging films, waste ingredients, pallets, stretch wrap and more.
  • Environmental Action teams at our plants work to identify and implement ways to expand the materials we recycle and reduce the amount sent to landfills.
  • We recycle obsolete computers and electronics to reclaim valuable elements and recycle components that cannot be reclaimed. After our last corporate computer upgrade, we donated 350 used laptops to United Way offices across the United States, helping the environment and communities at the same time.
  • Employees in many of our facilities can recycle printer cartridges, cell phones and a variety of electronics through a program that benefits the Children's Miracle Network, one of our corporate philanthropic partners.
  • At our corporate offices, we're working with Soles4Souls to collect gently used shoes and sneakers from employees, which are sent in for reuse and recycling.
  • Dagoba recycles everything possible – including fluorescent lights, Styrofoam, pallets and wrap.
  • Many of our packaging items can be recycled where appropriate collection programs exist. Click here (PDF) to learn more about our packaging materials to help determine what is recyclable where you live.
