Hershey Expands and Accelerates Responsible Cocoa Community Programs in West Africa

The Hershey Company reinforces cocoa sustainability efforts by accelerating farmer and family development in West Africa, where 70 percent of the world's cocoa is grown. Over the next five years, Hershey will expand and accelerate programs to improve cocoa communities by investing in West Africa and continuing to work with experts in agriculture, community development and government to achieve progress with cocoa farmers and their families. The programs include certified products, expanding COCOALINK into the Ivory Coast, opening the HERSHEY LEARN TO GROW farm and family development center in Ghana, and a $10 million commitment to reduce child labor and improve the cocoa supply in West Africa. By 2017, Hershey's public and private partnerships will directly benefit 750,000 African cocoa farmers and over two million people in cocoa communities across the region. Read More.

The Hershey Company Donates $250,000 to Project Advancing Hope

Hershey Joins the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

To further our commitment to sustainable sourcing, The Hershey Company has joined the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Hershey continues to exclusively purchase palm oil from suppliers that are members of the RSPO, a not-for-profit association founded by the World Wildlife Federation and other organizations to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil.

Hershey Announces Mobile Phone Program to Connect Ghana Cocoa Farmers

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), The Hershey Company (NYSE: HSY), and the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) announced, at the Ghana Cocoa House, a first-of-its kind program to use mobile technology to deliver practical information on agricultural and social programs to rural cocoa farmers. The program, called “COCOALINK – Connecting Cocoa Communities,” will make use of Ghana’s rapidly developing mobile phone infrastructure and build on the existing successful WCF education and literacy programs to reach more than 8,000 Ghanaian cocoa farmers and community members in 15 pilot communities in the important cocoa-growing regions of Western Ghana.

Hershey Kicks Off 34th Annual Hershey's Track & Field Games Program

On February 23, 2011, The Hershey Company (NYSE: HSY) announced that it has officially opened registration for the 2011 Hershey'sTrack & Field Games program, the company's long-running, free youth fitness initiative that takes place in nearly 4,000 communities throughout North America. Now entering its 34th year, Hershey's Track & Field Games program is the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America. It is designed to encourage physical fitness and sportsmanship for youth of all skill levels ages 9 to 14. Hershey Wins PRNews CSR Award for Best Sustainability/CSR Report

“Emphasizing its performance on key economic, social and environmental issues that comprise its CSR program, Hershey’s report features ample images and graphic elements that not only illuminate its citizenship effort, but its iconic products as well. The 2009 CSR Report also marked the first time the company applied Global Reporting Initiative guidelines. GRI transparency was a top priority, with an index that called out indicators that were fully, partially or not addressed. The Hershey’s report was built upon a CSR framework that includes environment, community, marketplace and workplace. Particularly compelling are sections on the challenges of sourcing cocoa in West Africa, South America and Asia, and quotes from employees about their community efforts. Hershey Mexico Receives Two CSR Awards

Hershey Mexico recently received an award as a “Socially Responsible Company” from the Mexican Center for Philanthropy. The award recognizes Hershey Mexico for its policies and practices related to community relations, ethical business practices, environmental stewardship and high-quality workplace.

Additionally, Hershey Mexico also received the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Mexico CSR Recognition in 2010.
