Biotech and GM Ingredients

What are biotech and GM Ingredients?

For thousands of years, farmers have practiced selective breeding of plants to improve the quality and sustainability of crops to feed a growing world population. Modern methods of farming and seed production use the latest advances in plant biotechnology. One type of biotechnology is recombinant DNA technology (commonly known as genetic modifications or GM) which allows plants to be developed with specific beneficial traits that enable a more reliable and affordable food supply.

Are biotech and GM Ingredients safe?

Hershey has gone to great lengths to ensure the safety of all of our ingredients, including ingredients that may contain biotech and GM ingredients. The international scientific community, including the U.S. American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, Health Canada, the National Academy of Science and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations have all examined the health and environmental safety of plant biotechnology. These organizations have concluded that these technologies are safe for human consumption.1-4
