Hershey Foods Selects OMD Worldwide as Its New Media Buying Agency of Record

HERSHEY, Pa., May 2, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Hershey Foods Corporation has selected OMD Worldwide, part of the Omnicom Group Inc., as its agency of record (AOR) for all media buying. Annually, Hershey spends an estimated $150 million in broadcast and print media.

The assignment of OMD as the sole agency of record comes after a six week review of selected participants. The AOR assignment will be effective with the fourth quarter-2002 buys for broadcast, and calendar year 2003 for print. Media planning will remain with the aligned Brand agencies.

"After a thorough but beneficial review, OMD emerged as the best partner to assume the responsibility of handling Hershey's consolidated media buying. We look forward to partnering with them and building our business with creative and efficient solutions to media buying," said Wynn Willard, Sr. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.

OMD's role as sole media buyer is a departure from Hershey's historical media buying relationships, which involved separate AOR assignments by dayparts. The new single point of contact for all media buying will enhance Hershey Foods' ability to take advantage of cross-platform and bundled media deals from network ownership groups.

"Media consolidation is the right thing for Hershey," said Mike Wege, Vice President, Portfolio Brands. "Volume aggregation within the media supply market, process improvement opportunities, and optimal use of agency and Hershey resources are just some of the many benefits we look forward to realizing from this consolidation."

"We are proud to expand our relationship with Hershey, and build on the three decade partnership Hershey has had with DDB," said Joe Uva, President & CEO of OMD Worldwide. "Hershey's decision to reinvent itself from a media buying perspective is not only timely, it's necessary in the face of continued consolidation by media owners and continued fragmentation of audiences."

OMD Worldwide (www.omd.com) is a leading global full service media company, with over 80 offices in 68 cities and 45 countries, and over 4,500 employees worldwide. OMD has a leadership position in all world regions and maintains more top market positions than any global competitor.

Hershey Foods Corporation (NYSE: HSY) is the leading North American manufacturer of quality chocolate and non-chocolate confectionery, chocolate- related grocery products. Reese's(R) peanut butter cups, Hershey's(R) chocolate and chocolate with almonds bars, Hershey's(R) Kisses(R) chocolates, Kit Kat(R) wafer bar, Twizzlers(R) candy, Jolly Rancher(R) candy, Hershey's(R) cocoa, Hershey's(R) syrup, Ice Breakers(R) chewing gum and mints, Care Free(R) chewing gum and Bubble Yum(R) bubble gum are some of the company's most popular products.
