Charlene H. Binder Joins Hershey as Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer

HERSHEY, Pa., March 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- David J. West, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Hershey Company (NYSE: HSY) today announced that Charlene H. Binder is joining the company as Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer, effective March 24. She will report to West and serve as a member of the Hershey Executive Team.

Binder will be responsible for global human resources, total compensation and benefits, corporate communications, flight operations and facilities management. She succeeds Marcella K. Arline, who last year announced her retirement as Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer.

"She has a strong record of leadership across global consumer goods organizations with an extensive background in all aspects of human resources. Charlene will lead our continued efforts to develop the organization structure and talent to support Hershey's global growth. Binder joins Hershey from The Dannon Company, in White Plains, N.Y., where she was Vice President, Human Resources for North America. She joined Dannon in January 2006, with responsibility for the company's North American human resources function. While at Dannon, Binder was instrumental in developing systems to accommodate growth and to develop talent through acquisition and retention.

From 2001 to 2006, Binder was Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources, at Unilever Cosmetics International. She led human resources for the company's worldwide fine fragrance organization. In this role, Binder led the restructuring of the human resources function, enabling the team to provide effective solutions to key business activities. She was responsible for process improvement and employee engagement efforts after a worldwide restructuring. Binder spent 17 years in a variety of human resources leadership positions at Unilever. She began her career in human resources at Johnson & Johnson.

Binder is originally from Pittsburgh and holds bachelor's degrees in labor studies and history from The Pennsylvania State University. She holds a master's degree in organizational change management from The New School University in New York City.
