Cocoa Farming: Improving Education
Improving Access to Education
Teacher training groupEducation is fundamental to increasing opportunities in the world’s cocoa-growing regions, and Hershey is helping to improve access to quality, relevant education through a range of partnerships and on-the-ground programs.

The Hershey Company is working with the International Foundation for Education & Self-Help (IFESH) to provide teacher training in the cocoa-growing regions of Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Teachers and teacher trainers learn how to create teaching and learning materials, access information through the Internet and employ methods in the classroom that stimulate learning, including visual aids and participatory learning approaches. The teachers and community members also are trained in agro-forestry, environmental conservation and income-generating skills. This Hershey IFESH program reaches more than 2,000 teachers and teachers-in-training annually and will benefit approximately 40,000 primary and secondary school students.
